When I look at the contact list in my WA then sometimes a notifications appears below a user:

....is typing

Does that mean typing in WA only?

Or typing in other Apps (browser, editor,...) on smartphone of the corresponding user in general too?

If the user is tapping around and reading message only: Does that mean "typing" too?
So ".....is currently active on smartphone" would be more correct.

As far as I know, in a WeChat conversation, you'll also see that notification if the other person is actually typing. I think it should be the same way in WA.

Download size < 0.12 MB. But also accurate enough, ad-free & free.

The "....is typing" notification in WhatsApp specifically indicates that the user is currently typing a message within the WhatsApp app. It doesn't extend to typing in other apps like browsers or editors. If a user is tapping around and reading messages without typing, it wouldn't trigger the "typing" status. So, you're right that a more accurate notification might be ".....is currently active on smartphone."
