Not Receiving a Notification When Notifications Are Enabled

Today I sent a text message with a photo to an individual as an addition to an existing chat. An hour later that individual replied. However, I received dot on the WA icon and I did not receive any other notification that the person replied. Then I verified that all of my WA notifications are enabled except for "Group notifications". I'm using WA version 2.23.23.78.

Is there someplace else I can check (I used to get the notification dot but don't anymore)?

Did he/she disable the 'Read receipts' option in his/her WA?

Original sentence:

Replacement sentence:
However, I -did not receive a dot- on the WA icon and I did not receive any other notification that the person replied.

I don't know if the Read Receipts option was enabled on the receiver's WhatsApp. Guess I'll have to wait until I get another message.

I now have the same problem on a different cellphone. No notification when a new WA message is received. Any ideas?

Here is another way to explain my problem:

I never get a notification when I receive a new WA chat. I open WA and I see "Archives" but nothing else. If I tap on "Archives", then I see the new chat.

I want to see a notification that a new chat has arrived.

How can I do that?

Check WhatsApp notification settings in both the app and your phone settings to ensure that notifications for individual chats are enabled.

Everything is working normally now. I can't remember what I did to get it that way though. I'm thinking that it has something to do with Archiving but I'm not sure. Still working on that...

If your WhatsApp notifications aren't working even though you've turned them on in Settings, I totally get how frustrating that can be. Thank you, I appreciate your reply. I checked, and all WhatsApp notifications are turned on, and nothing is blocking any other apps from sending notifications.

It's so rare that I get any incoming stuff from WhatsApp, so I've been doing some testing by sending WA messages to myself so I can see what's going on. As a result, it appears that sending messages to myself will not create any notifications.
