Whatsapp messaging

My wife received a msg on her lock screen saying 'whatsapp - 1 new message'

I have never had this before - always shows me the name of sender and content for a moment. She told me its probably just from a group chat or someone she doesnt have the number of, yet when I google it - everything seems to point to she may have hidden chat in 'chat lock' ?

Help anyone - is she lying to me? Can this occur for any other legitimate reason?

Hiding messages' contents from the lock screen is a legitimate reason.
That is why it is an option available in all mobile operating systems.

It is possible the setting was changed accidentally, or even a server-side mistake from WhatsApp (wouldn't be the first time something like this happens with a Facebook app...).

It could also be a generic message from the app, such as those when the app is running the scheduled backup or is "looking for messages".

The vague notification might be from a group chat or someone not in her contacts. It’s less likely due to a hidden chat. Check her WhatsApp and phone settings. If you’re concerned, it’s best to talk to her directly.
