The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 is a great device that has stayed in the hearts of many. If you want to continue using your phone but you also want to have the latest Android operating systems, we have good news and bad news. The bad news is that Samsung stopped offering Android operating system updates for the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 after the Kit Kat 4.4.2 update BUT luckily, you can use custom ROMs to update your system up to Android Nougat. A word of caution though, using custom ROMs will void any warranty you may have on your phone so use them at your own risk.

Android Nougat on the Samsung Galaxy Note 2

The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 did not receive any more Android system updates after Kit Kat 4.4.2, as Samsung released newer models and chose to offer each of those with the latest Android operating systems instead. However, it is still possible for you to get the most recent operating systems like Android Nougat on your Galaxy Note 2 device using custom ROMs. Check out The Android Soul or Team Android (XDA developers also offers some guidance) for a tutorial on how to get Android Nougat on your device but bear in mind that doing so is at your own risk.

Android Marshmallow on the Samsung Galaxy Note 2

The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 did not get an official Android Marshmallow update. However, a custom ROM is available to get Android Marshmallow 6.0.1 on the Galaxy Note 2, and will provide features like the vertical scrolling app drawer and the white notification shade from the TouchWiz UI.

Android Lollipop on the Samsung Galaxy Note 2

Though there is no official Android Lollipop update for the Galaxy Note 2 but you can flash the CyanogenMod 12.1 ROM to get Lollipop on the Galaxy Note 2 (N7100 variant). This ROM is based on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop, so if you're looking for a relatively simple way to extend the lifespan of your Galaxy Note 2, this could be the way to do it.

It's a stable build, and most, if not all, of the main features work. Head over to XDA Developers to learn more.

WTF is up with Android versions? Are they created by children? When and why did candy names replace comprehensible version numbers? I have neither the time nor the inclination to remember whether Snickers is newer or older than Butterfinger.

I love my Note 2 and its blue "Touchwiz UI". I am able to do every thing i wish, which i can do with latest Note 5. I have used it for 3 years and will continue till applications stop supporting Kitkat. Then i will purchase latest Note series phone again. No regret for such a beautiful and strong phone, despite no further update of android.

Why we want every thing new, just sake of NEW. This is reason, life is full of tension due to money problem.

This is one reason I am no longer on Android. Buying Samsung is basically flushing money down the toilet!

I think it's a despicable thing they do just to get people to upgrade a phone to a new one they should still give the basic upgrades even if they are a bit behind the times

Yeah.. I am eagerly desperate to get Lollipop on my Galaxy Note 2.. it' s not that i couldn't buy new phones.. but i like this phone very much and if Samsung will release Android M for my phone then also i am willing to upgrade on that too. So please for the sake of Galaxy Note II lovers upgrade the firmware to lollipop 5.1.1 instead. Thank you very much.

I have been a loyal and long time Samsung customer, I own two Galaxy Note2'S. One is mine and the other was a gift for my mother.. I would very much like to receive the Lollipop update for these devices because I've had issues with them as of late.. if there isn't going to be an update for them I will change carriers and devices .. that's how upset this issue has made me...
