The official Samsung firmware for the Galaxy Note 3 has been pushed out OTA across the US, bringing Android 5.0 Lollipop to the device. But you can install Android 5.0 on your Note 3 manually if you need to, by following our tutorial below.

How to update Galaxy Note 3 to Android 5.0 with Kies

The easiest way to install the update is by using Samsung Kies. Download the latest version of Samsung Kies on your computer and connect your Galaxy Note 3 with a USB cable. Kies should notify you that there is an update available. Then you simply follow the steps to install it.

How to install Android 5.0 Lollipop on Galaxy Note 3 with Odin

If Kies doesn't let you update the Android 5.0 firmware, you can flash it manually using Odin. Here's how to do that.

Note: the Android 5.0 Lollipop firmware, build number N900XXUEBOA5, is official Samsung firmware for the Galaxy Note 3 LTE, SM-N9005. While the firmware is Polish, it will also work on any international Note 3. Attempting to flash this firmware on carrier-branded Note 3's may cause problems, so we don't advise it.

As always, manually tinkering with your device has risks involved. Please be aware of them before proceeding.

Install Lollipop on Galaxy Note 3 instructions

1. Unzip the downloaded firmware zip file on your computer.

2. Launch Odin.

3. Reboot your Galaxy Note 3 in download mode (Volume Down + Power + Home).

4. Connect your Galaxy Note 3 via USB cable to your computer and wait for Odin to recognize it (a blue box should appear next to ID:COM).

5. Make sure only Auto-Reboot and F.Reset Time are checked in Odin.

6. Make sure Re-Partition is not checked.

6.5 If you're experiencing an ext4 error message, you need to download the correct PIT file for your device (Google your model number and "PIT file" to find one). Then check Re-Partition, click on the Pit tab and then the PIT  button and locate the file. Then continue.

7. Click the AP button and locate the tar.md5 file in the unzipped firmware file and hit Start.

8. Wait patiently until the procedure ends and do not disconnect your Note 3. It may take a while.

9. You should see a green PASS message when successful.

10. Once your Galaxy Note 3 restarts, you should be running Android 5.0 Lollipop.

Now you can restore any backed up data. If you get stuck in a bootloop or encounter some buggy behavior, reboot your Note 3 in Fastboot (press and hold Volume up + Power + Home) and use the volume keys to navigate and the power button to access recovery mode. Clear the cache partition and then reboot.

If you have any major bugs at startup, do a factory reset on your Galaxy Note 3 from recovery mode and then restore your data again.

How do you like Android 5.0 on the Note 3? Why do you think the Note 3 beat the Note 4 to Android Lollipop? Share your thoughts in the comments.

Bought a Note 3 in Spain and it came with android 4.2.2
Since i'm from the Netherlands the update to android 5.0 didn't appear...
Tried and searched everywhere and I didn't find a way to install lollipop the normal way so i got my stuff together and used the Odin Turtorial to install it on my device.

I must say the first tries didn't work and i almost bricked my Phone, but I didn't gave up and also needed to find the proper PIT file and eventually it worked!

However the Phone kept hanging on the samsung logo at first boot, so first wiped the cache and rebooted.. didn't work..
So I chose for the factory reset option and BOOOM! there it was!

I'm using it for one day now and all my problems (like connection and OTG cable didn't work) are gone!

Super stoked right now so a BIG thank you for the clear and easy how-to !

I am really surprised at the number of Note 3 users who haven't been updated to Lollipop yet. Shame on you Samsung!!! My hope is that Samsung will have a heart and upgrade ALL Note 3 users to Marshmallow in the new year.

It is awesome, only drawback is that passwords for wifi are not saved, have to enter them every time i connect with any network.

Today after waiting long time for Lollipop OTA update, I manually updated the polish version. Instructions were easy to follow and process took only 15 minutes to update. Update working well up till now and I am very happy to have active LTE network selection option. I bought Note 3 SM-N9005 only to use LTE in Pakistan and after purchase I found that I have to wait for an update in order to use LTE (Samsung Sucks) though I was still able to use LTE by manipulating some codes. After waiting a long time today I am able to use this bloody LTE service.
