5 things the Galaxy Note Edge can do that the Note 4 can't
Samsung announced two huge devices recently – the Galaxy Note 4 and the Galaxy Note Edge. One treads fairly familiar territory, but the other is more of a venture into unchartered waters. The distinctive look of the Galaxy Note Edge may have already won you over, but if you're currently torn between the Edge and the Galaxy Note 4, here are five things you can do with Samsung's curved screen handset that you can't with the fourth version of the Note.
- Hands on: Samsung Galaxy Note Edge review: Samsung's first curved display revolution
The Samsung Galaxy Note Edge's unique curved screen edge offers a unique set of options. It opens up new possibilities, and these are highlighted in an infographic put together by Samsung Tomorrow.
Easy app access
The extra screen space provided by the Note Edge's curve is the perfect place to house app shortcuts.
The curve gives you easy access to your favorite apps, essentially working as a quick app switcher without taking up valuable space on your home screen.
View notifications from anywhere
While Android users are familiar with the idea of notifications appearing at the top of the screen, the Note Edge's curve can be used as a dedicated notification area.
This is especially useful when using the phone in landscape mode to watch movies or browse the web. You can see your notifications without having to break away from what you're doing. You just need to glance up from your viewing and you can read the full text of an SMS or email as it arrives.
Make things personal
Everyone likes to stamp their own mark on their phone, and the Note Edge gives you a whole new way to do this.
The extra portion of screen can be adorned with drawings, images and text for a truly customized look.
View a scrolling data ticker
Whether you want to keep an eye on stocks and shares, or you want to stay updated with the latest news headlines, a ticker in the Edge's curve keeps you informed.
The Ticker Board can also be tailored to show information from Twitter as well as other sources.
Easy access to tools and utilities
As well as apps, the Edge Screen can also be used to house shortcuts to all manner of Quick Tools so you don’t have to ferret around in individual apps to find the right tool.
This means you can always gain access to a stopwatch whenever you need one, and your voice recorder is never more than a tap away. As time goes by the number of apps and utilities that take advantage of the Edge Screen is only going to increase.
Are the Note Edge's unique features enough to persuade you to buy it, or are you more taken with the Galaxy Note 4?
