Galaxy S7/ S7 Edge receive Android Oreo in the UK
The Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge have already received a number of updates and security patches including Nougat, and users have been waiting for Android 8. Samsung has now started rolling out the Oreo update over-the-air in the United Kingdom and it’s only a matter of time before it’s also released in other countries.
Oreo rolls out to Galaxy S7/S7 Edge in UK
Samsung is now rolling out that delicious Android 8 Oreo cookie (or is it biscuit?) to the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge in the United Kingdom. That's firmware version G930FXXU2ERD5 (S7) and G935FXXU2ERD5 (for the Edge). The update is only available OTA right now and can’t be downloaded through SmartSwitch.
Due to the nature of the phased rollout, we can expect the Oreo update for these devices will have a staggered arrival in different countries at different dates.
Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge owners in the United Kingdom should keep an eye out for an over-the-air update notification on their devices. They can also try manually pulling the update by going to the Software update menu in the Settings. Carrier branded devices can take a little longer to receive the update, though we have confirmation that it is also rolling out to Vodafone-branded handsets in the UK.
Once downloaded, they can expect to enjoy all of the new superpowers of Android 8.0 Oreo included in this release, as well as the April security patch.
Does this apply to the US?
If everything happens as it does usually, then yes. Updates are typically a few days apart for other countries. So far in the US, Verizon users have received a security patch, which slightly disappointed users as some information about Oreo lead them to believe that it would bring the system update as well. But of course, it was only April's security patch.
Last week the devices were also seen on the Wi-Fi Alliance certification site including models from Sprint, AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile, as well as unlocked versions. Along with the new information, it's looking promising that it will finally arrive soon.
Samsung Galaxy S7 / S7 Edge Android update
Carrier | Issued Android version | Current Android version | Planned Oreo update |
---|---|---|---|
AT&T | 6.0.1 | 7.1.2 | 8.0 |
T-Mobile | 6.0.1 | 7.1.2 | 8.0 |
Verizon | 6.0.1 | 7.1.2 | 8.0 |
US Cellular | 6.0.1 | 7.1.2 | 8.0 |
Sprint | 6.0.1 | 7.1.2 | 8.0 |
Unbranded | 6.0.1 | 7.1.2 | 8.0 |
So, if you're eagerly awaiting the update for your S7 or S7 Edge in the US, you shouldn't have to wait much longer. Be sure to keep us updated about whether you receive the Oreo by leaving a comment.
What do you think about Samsung's updates?

How do I retreve the pictures from my s7?
Is the device working properly?
Then just unlock the phone, and send the files to a cloud storage service (Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, etc).
If the device is not working for some reason, we would need more details to try to help you...
still on 4.2 no update, everytime i do check it states all uptodate, thats not true only shows 4.2, for galaxy 7
Hello. Will I get the update if I'm not located in USA ? I have the at&t S7 edge unlocked version but I'm not leaving in USA.
This update is horrible. Running an app while fast charging drains the battery instead of charging it like usual. In fact, charging isn't working unless I turn off the phone and it's slow. Does anyone know how to roll back an update. I hope they aren't pulling that apple bs of slowing down phones so you'll need to upgrade. UFB
I m tired of waiting for Android Oreo , might as well as not roll it at all, Samsung Shatners...you and crap Android Oreo , nothing but word, no facts, one month delay if not more than that, i might as well sell my S7 and get an S8.
I don't like the updated version, battery life becomes short...
I didn't even received it, people talk this and that, nothing but rummors, with this release.
As soon as it gets S7 and Android P, S12 will already be released...
Samsung has now started rolling out the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge Oreo update. The firmware update is currently being rolled out over-the-air

It's released my but...not everywhere.
A friend of mine has the Galaxy S7 and managed to solve the incidents. At least that's what he told me.
I updated to Nougat months ago.... Got a notifications yesterday saying an update was available along with NEW FEATURES. Which I assumed would have been Oreo. Nothing has changed..... Still running Android 7.0. Always been an Android guru. Never thought i'd say this but I am seriously contemplating switching to iOS -_-
This update is really bad!!! Get about half the battery life I was getting!!!
When I updated my HTC m9 to Nougat, I had a bunch of minor issues, the biggest, severe battery drain. My fix was to reset all app preferences. After I had gone thru all individual app permissions, I then went to back up & reset. Unchecked, which erased previous data, and rebuilt new back up. Also I unchecked restore at the same time. It's a bit of a pain, but far better than a factory reset. And you loose no data stored already except app settings being renewed.
I have the global version of the S7 Edge i.e the SM-G935F which I bought in the UK but I haven't received any updates although I'm in faraway Nigeria now.
I'd like to know if there's an update for this already or in the alternative, how long further I'd have to wait to get mine.
Thanks.
I absolutely hate this update! What works me most is the keyboard update. Since then I can't write in either English or german with the same English (UK) keyboard setup like I've always done. Like when I write something in german it gets auto corrected to English word that resembled the german word. Every word I saved up until has been reset. My s6 is laggy and when I have the many tabs open like always it respond half a second later. When someone calls I need over 5 seconds to tap the take call button because it's laggy, buggy and everything shows some seconds later than normal. I regret accepting the update. I regret this. The only thing that is slightly good is the notification of WhatsApp where you can read messages from any of my friends separately without actually opening WhatsApp
Already got the Nougat update on my S7 Edge over a month ago and love it!
This latest update is cr!@. Making a phone call. Contacts the favourites are gone. When you press the tiny symbols they flash but dont do anything. The icons are so small on the camera you dont even know they are there. So much white in everything. Cant change months in the calendar except when you stumble across the trick and then it is one at a time.
Did I mention how small everything is. My finger taps two at once. Utter crap. Maybe you transferred the battery checkers to be user interface testers.
I really like your power saver app it tells me what applications have been running when I didnt want them running in the first place. What part of "close all "dont you understand.
Did I mention how utterly useless this is.
Is it a phone? Well I tried to make a call yesterday so using the green phone icon up came a list of contacts. When i finally got the search bar to work and typed in a name which then listed the person twice. Once with a phone number and the second with an email address. Why ?? I did mention I was calling someone. If i want to email them I would have used the email icon! So I have a name with phone number, lets ring them . Nope up comes the message box. WTF!!! Three times in and out until finally it dialled. What a piece of shit update. My list could go on forever.
And remember dont try using it outside, always have a magnifying glass with you and a tiny finger for choosing and tap 4 more times then you would normally do to complete a task.
Just received the 7.0 update for my Excellent Samsung Galaxy S7.... And it's feckin fabulous, I was a little bit wary of the changes to settings and different layouts but that soon passed. I didn't think there was much room for improvement but I was wrong. The best thing (in my humble opinion) is that Samsung has brought back "Air wake", though it's now called "Easy Screen Turn On", it can be found in the Accessibility section - Dexterity and Interaction. It allows you to wake up the screen by simply waving your hand over the sensors, this coupled with the improvement to the notifications makes it a joy to use, well done Samsung.
The only negative I can find is the colour change to the stock S planner, I've always been a fan of this calendar but the last 2 updates have made it worse. (colour change, reduction in customisations). But I'm sure I will get over it.
Peace 🖖
