It means that there is not a valid sim card in your phone.

For example, I have a SD card in my 2nd sim card slot. So its phone number displays unknown.

Have you checked to see if it is the network provider, perhaps?

Try the following thing. Go to settings app>About phone or about device>Status. In the status menu, you should find your phone number. Hope this helps.
