I noticed that when I delete a message sent to a particular chat, it doesn't show the “This message was deleted” placeholder. But it does for other chats.

I wonder if the recepient won't see the placeholder either.

If I'm right, this happens whatever app I use to send: whatsapp for Windows 10, for Android or for iOS.

Where is this set up?

Any insights much appreciated

Did you delete that message for yourself or for everyone?

Messages you've sent that are deleted for everyone will be replaced with:
"This message was deleted"

I deleted it for myself. You're exactly right, I tested it. Thanks a lot 🙂.

The behavior you're describing, where the "This message was deleted" placeholder doesn't appear when you delete a message in a specific chat, could be due to several factors. It's important to understand that how message deletion works can vary between messaging apps, and it may also depend on the settings and actions of both the sender and recipient. Here are some factors to consider:

Recipient Settings: In some messaging apps, the "This message was deleted" placeholder is only shown if the recipient has the option enabled in their settings to show deleted messages. If the recipient has disabled this feature, they won't see the placeholder even if you delete a message.

Message Age: Some messaging apps have a time limit for how long a deleted message will show the "This message was deleted" placeholder. If you delete a message that is very old, it may not trigger the placeholder.

App Version: The behavior of deleted messages can also depend on the version of the messaging app being used. If the sender and recipient are using different versions of the app, this could affect whether the placeholder is displayed.

Platform: The behavior of deleted messages can vary between platforms (e.g., Windows, Android, iOS) and may depend on how the app is implemented on each platform.

App Settings: Some messaging apps offer settings that allow you to customize the behavior of deleted messages. Make sure to check the app's settings for any options related to deleted messages.

To address this issue, you can check the settings of the messaging app you're using, both on your device and on the recipient's device. Ensure that the "Show deleted messages" or similar feature is enabled if you want the "This message was deleted" placeholder to appear when you delete a message.

If the issue persists, it might be related to the specific app version or platform, and you may want to contact the app's support or consult the app's official documentation for further guidance on how deleted messages are handled in your specific case.
