Get KitKat ROM for Galaxy S4 I9505 with leaked CyanogenMod 11
If you're happy tinkering with your shiny Galaxy S4 and have no faith in Samsung to deliver Android 4.4 KitKat to your device any time this century, then you can get busy flashing a leaked custom ROM to get almost the same effect. An unofficial build of CyanogenMod 11 has appeared on XDA Developers.
Funny that this KitKat build has appeared just a couple of weeks after KitKat went live on the Nexus 5, while Samsung's official 4.3 update is only just rolling out to S4 owners on the AT&T network in the States, four months after it appeared on the Nexus 7. One of the most immediately noticeable changes is that this version of CM supports KitKat's transparent system bars.
The only things you won't see in the CyanogenMod 11 build if you flash it on your S4 are, according to the developer, the IR Blaster, screen rotation and proximity sensor functionality. Not bad considering Samsung's 4.3 firmware for the Galaxy S3 has battery issues, app crashes, device freezes and crazy instability. And they've been working on it for months, not weeks.
If you're ready to flash this unofficial build, head on over to XDA Developers and read up on the changelog, bugs and fixes before going ahead, because as always AndroidPIT takes no responsibility for any modding you do on your device. If you keep an eye on the updates and comments you'll be able to see when the missing functionality is added and everything is running nice and stable.
If you're a maverick who's flashed this KitKat ROM already, let us know what you think of the firmware in the comments below.

I think everybody must be careful to write Samsung Galaxy S4 without writing the model : GT-I9500 and GT-I9505 are completely different. The title must be Galaxy S4 GT-I9505
Fair call @x1123, I made the change. Sorry for any confusion!
Una consulta yo tengo el atrix MB860 Y no consigo rom cyanogenMod para este modelo si le pongo el rom de otro modelo como el atrix 2 se puede anda bien?
Hi@diego, you need to flash the right firmware for your device - otherwise you seriously risk bricking your phone. Search through the XDA Developers site and see if they have anything suitable for your Atrix. if anyone does, they do. it may not be Cm, but you should be able to find something interesting.
Has anyone done this?
I'm on it now and it's unstable. I couldn't answer a call yesterday as my phone just kept ringing. I am permanently not connected to Google servers. Maps couldnt find me on gps. Also the clock is really glitched out. I keep checking the time and it's way off. I switched to manual time as well and it still went nuts. The reason I'm back to this site now is that I'm Google searching for a different rom
In all fairness to CM, this wasn't an official release. Have you checked out our recent article about KitKat ROMs? AOKP and Paranoid Android are pretty solid.
