Honor 50

The Honor 50 has finally arrived in Europe - Germany, to be exact, and it is armed with Google services! There is no word on this handset being released in the US, despite it featuring Google services. The former Huawei subsidiary has finally made its way back to the European market. The Honor 50 is especially exciting because of the powerful camera and the (relatively) low price point. This page will see us summarize everything that you need to know about its price, technical data and the release.

Honor 50: Release date and price

The Honor 50 was unveiled for the global market on October 26, 2021 at 3pm. A few months earlier, Honor presented the smartphone for a release in the Chinese market. Apart from being made available with Google services right out of the box, not much has happened to the Honor 50 in this country. While the exact release date is not yet known exactly, Honor has already released word about its pricing.

The Honor 50 will come equipped with 128 GB of internal storage and 6 GB of RAM with an asking price of retail for €529 (about $601) over in Europe. For those who feel that such hardware specifications are insufficient for their use, there is always a better-equipped variant that comes with double the amount of internal storage space at 256 GB and 8GB of RAM. Picking up that handset will cost you €599 (about $680), which I think is a fair price to pay for the amount of storage space you receive. For each model, you still have to decide between one of four color options.

Honor 50: Design and colors

Although Honor has already separated itself from Huawei a few months back, the design of the Honor 50 is somewhat reminiscent of the Huawei P50, which is not expected to be released in this country. It is thus decisively characterized by pair of camera elements at the back. The upper segment houses the 108-megapixel main camera, while below it sits a ring that contains the other cameras for ultra-wide angle, depth information, and macro shots.

You can check out the color options of the Honor 50 in the image above. They are Deep Sea Blue, Space Silver, Midnight Black, and HONOR lettering. While Deep Sea Blue and Midnight Black are more conventional looking, Space Silver is said to be reminiscent of ice crystals. The HONOR lettering, on the other hand, depicts just that on the back of the smartphone.

Honor 50: Technical specifications

The technical specifications of the Honor 50 were already well known in advance. Over in Germany, the smartphone is powered by a Snapdragon 778 chipset which supports 5G. In addition, 6 or 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB or 256 GB of internal memory are options from which you can choose from. The display measures 6.57-inches across diagonally, where it boasts OLED technology and offers a high refresh rate of 120 Hertz at a 2,340 x 1,080 pixels resolution. It also supports 10-bit color reproduction.

Quick-charging is available on the Honor 50 via its 66-watt charger, and this allows the 4,300 mAh battery to be recharged to 70 percent from zero within 20 minutes. Being a camera smartphone, the camera features are of course, exciting.

There's a 108-megapixel sensor that is accompanied by an 8MP ultra-wide-angle camera and depth and macro cameras of 2 megapixels each. The front camera offers 32-megapixel resolution and offers a wide 90-degree field of view. Last but not least, here is some interesting information for content creators: the Honor 50 offers a total of 8 video modes that are supposed to provide more creative options for videos.

Honor 50: Special features

Probably the biggest special feature of the Honor 50 is that it comes equipped with Google services right out of the box. This was not possible for a long time because Honor was a Huawei subsidiary, which in turn saw it affected by the trade embargo with the US. Besides providing Google services, Honor also places plenty of focus on the camera capability.

Without any more additional details available, the camera does look to be rather ordinary for this price range. As soon as we get our hands on a review unit over here at NextPit, we will check whether the camera and its video features are really something special and worth checking out in greater detail.
