When WhatsApp is opened a QR code is presented. Scanning this with an IPhone 8 gives a link that fails.
Any help appreciated.

When we open a web browser and go to web.whatsapp.com, we will see a QR code on the right side of the screen. Do you mean that QR code?

You should open WhatsApp on your iPhone at first.
Go to the "Settings" tab, then tap "Linked Devices." In the next window, tap "Link Device".
Now, point the iPhone camera at that QR code.

Thanks however I am unable to find the link device tab in settings on the iPhone 8 in spite of your detailed instructions. If it indeed exists I need step by step instructions on where to find it. John.

I wonder what the version number of your WhatsApp on the iPhone 8 is. As we know, the latest WhatsApp is v2.24.24.80 or plus.

So, can you not find the menu option: "Settings - Linked Devices - Link Device"? Any screenshots about what's on your iPhone?
