The Best Free Music Download Apps for Android and iOS
Downloading music seems to be going the way of the dodo, with streaming services like Spotify and Deezer taking over the helm. Still, you might be interested in some ways to download some tunes for free to have on you when you're offline. So, here we've listed some of the best apps to help you do that (legally).
These apps allow you to download songs (if they carry those tunes) for free. However, you should remember that just because something's available as a free music download, this does not equate to it being legal as the owner of the song might not have given permission to the site to do so.
There are tons of free downloadable music content on pirate sites that are guaranteed to be illegal, so ensure that you have Creative Commons or Copyleft permission before downloading any MP3s.
Table of contents:
- Audials Play: Perfect for radio recording
- SoundCloud: Best for quality and quantity
- SoundLoader: Fast and easy downloads
- Palco: A very niche app
- Jamendo Music: Ad-free downloads and offline playback
- Anghami: Best for Arabic audio
- Hungama: For Bollywood fans
Download your favorite music for free with these apps
Audials Play: Perfect for radio recording
Audials Play is one of the best ways for anyone to download music for free on an Android device, but it takes an unconventional approach. While you can download tons of music with the app, all of the music will be sourced from the radio itself. Clearly an out-of-the-box solution, don't you think so?
Audials Play offers a total of 100,000 radio stations in MP3 and AAC format, in addition to 260,000 podcasts that are sorted by country and genre. Audials Play can record whole broadcasts on-demand or save the stream with automatic song separation. You will be able to play the music or broadcast again at a later time, even when offline.
There are no ads and in-app purchases to suffer from, and it also does not display any banner ads in the app. While it does not play commercials, there are some broadcasters who earn some money by playing radio advertising, so that is something to take note of.
The user interface is simple enough that with a couple of taps on the menu and you can begin recording. This comprehensive, well-designed app boasts discovery features, EQ controls, and Chromecast support to boot. What's more, Audials Play allows you to schedule recordings ahead of time, letting you nab those tunes in advance.
- You can download the Audials Play app from Google Play Store and Apple App Store
SoundCloud: Best for quality and quantity
SoundCloud is one of the best free music apps if you are more than happy to settle for lesser-known hits, as the app is popular with independent or more obscure artists who upload their tracks here so that anyone can play them for free. In addition, many tracks here are also available for download.
Touted as the world's largest music and audio streaming platform, it has more than 200 million songs while offering a wide range of genres that cannot be found elsewhere, such as DJ sets, hand-curated playlists, remixes, and freestyles—apart from chart-topping albums and mainstream releases.
The free version mainly offers independent artists and is perfect for music enthusiasts to discover new tunes or a new artist, or perhaps be part of an emerging genre. Popular artists will most probably put their songs up here behind a paywall, so don't be disappointed if your favorite artist does that!
- You can download the SoundCloud app from Google Play Store and Apple App Store
SoundLoader: Quick and easy downloading
SoundLoader is an interesting addition to this list because doing so is easy. In fact, it takes just three steps to store your favorite tune on your handset. Just copy the song's URL from SoundCloud, launch SoundLoader, paste the link in the dialog box, and tap Download. That's it!
There are no irritating pop-up ads to contend with, either. This app allows you to make a backup of your favorite songs in a jiffy. Do take note that it is your responsibility as the user to gain permission from the content creator before republishing, redistributing, or reusing downloaded audio.
- You can download the SoundLoader app from Google Play Store and Apple App Store
Palco MP3: A very niche app
Palco MP3 is a free platform for independent Brazilian artists who want to share their talent with the rest of the world. Currently, there are more than 1.4 million songs from over 126,000 artists spread across 60 genres to get your booty moving. I understand that this is a very niche market, but anyone who wants to try something that is different from your everyday tunes would do well to give this a go.
This app allows you to stream radio stations, curate playlists of your favorite tunes, and download songs to your smartphone for offline listening. Whether you're looking to rock to some samba, bossa nova, hip-hop, or electronica, Palco has it covered. So dive in and discover what Brazil has to offer.
- You can download the Palco MP3 app from Google Play Store and Apple App Store
Jamendo Music: Ad-free downloads and offline playback
Jamendo Music allows you to listen to and, more importantly, download over 600,000 tracks without having to fork out a cent. What's remarkable about this app is the fact that there are no nasty advertisements that get in your way. Whoever said that there is no such thing as a free lunch? A gem pops up once in a blue moon.
In order to use this app, you will first need to sign up for an account. Once you have done that, you can play any song at any time of your convenience without any interruptions. The interface is simple and easy to use, with Jamendo attracting a community of more than 3,500,000 users already—and the number continues to grow daily! They also offer royalty-free music for commercial use, now how about that for content creators?
- You can download the Jamendo Music app from the Apple App Store
Anghami: Best for Arabic audio
Fancy some Arabic or African music? Anghami targets users from the MENA region (Middle East & North Africa) and offers a very similar service to Google Play Music. For those of us who don't live there, it's an excellent source of free Arabic and North African tunes.
The free service isn't unlimited, and you will experience some ads, but that's worth the entry price if you want to be more cultured and discover new music from a different continent.
- You can download the Anghami app from Google Play Store and Apple App Store
Hungama Music: Best for Bollywood fans
If you're a fan of Indian music of different genres, Hungama got you covered. This app has a huge database of songs (15 million and counting) including Bollywood numbers, and songs in Hindi, Punjabi, Gujarati, Tamil, and Telugu, among others.
Not only that, but it also has videos that can be downloaded and viewed using the integrated player. When you use the app for the first time, you'll get a certain amount of free downloads for free, so select your favorites carefully before considering whether you want to pay for anything more.
You can download the Hungama Music app from Google Play Store and Apple App Store
Note from the editor: In a previous version of this list, Google Play Music was nominated as the best option for Android fans. However, as the service has been discontinued by Google, which now uses YouTube Music, we have removed that option from the list.

I'm currently using Soundcloud and like it. But I guess I'll check the alternatives, thanks for the list.
Is there a free site you can print music charts ,that is actually free instead of giving your private info ??
A ringtones is a place to provide great ringtones and music for you.
Hi, you can try MUSCONV, its a free tools to transfer playlists from Spotify to Apple Music, Amazon Music, YouTube Music, or Tidal.
Wow, that's a lot!!! I think these alternatives are a big help not just for me but also for others to want to save music from different streaming sites. I'm currently using a free online tool which is AceThinker MP3Juice Downloader, to save music. I would explore the tools you provided and let you know my experience using them. Thanks!!!
maliek

Guys, stop spamming. Or we will ban you.
apologise to you.
I am looking forward to your next post. Wish you a safe and happy Christmas.
Hi, thanks for your kind sharing. I use a laptop more often than a phone, so I am used to using a desktop program called Joyoshare Screen Recorder to record and save a music file. I think one of its advantages is that it can save any part of the audio. I'm glad to share it here in case anyone would need it.
Fildo it can download music you get it @ fildo.net
"Youtube Downloader" is what I use. Found it on
XDA developers site. I think it's on F-Droid too. You can download just the audio, in several formats. It's free, but I donate couple times a year. Regular updates & improvements. Developer is very quick to fix any issues. The app also has internal notice when updates are available too.
I will try it in my music collection.
I've been looking for a way to download music for so long. Thank you for a useful article)
nice
Two more Indian music app Jiosavan, Gaana.
nice post. :)
free movies download app has limitation. Go to google play store and download premium software.
All these apps are great but they look and feel old. Most of the times these app developers don't invest the required time in building a good UI/UX. I personally recommend Atomic Music Downloader (com.thecodrr.atomic). Its easy, fast and also has the most intuitive UI in the whole category. Good article by the way.
Why would you want to install another app to your phone when you can just use website like ZippyAudio to download music?
Because most websites are cluttered with ads (so are most apps) but if you can find a good Android app for downloading music; nothing beats that. You get good streaming support, a better interface, download history, easy management etc. But you are of course right that for only downloading music nothing beats websites. I personally use Atomic Music Downloader on Android Play Store; its fast, easy and relatively ad-free.
hey, nice information, I like your sharing, I got a tool called wonderfox free hd video converter factory, a good program for downloading music easily. Share with you.
I always like to remind users that a lot of public library digital services include music apps available to residents and paid by city taxes, simply for picking up a library card: e.g. in Toronto the Play Store has apps for huge Naxos Classical and Jazz libraries (NML and NML Jazz), and Hoopla Digital indie music (also movies and comics). I also prefer the human-curated streamed "stations" on the former Sky service (now Radiotunes, JazzRadio, ClassicalRadio, etc.) to the algorithmic playstreams on Pandora, etc. which can be "trained" for half an hour or so but eventually drift into Tops-of-the-Pops to sell the trendy hits. Nice that this article has some specialized audience suggestions.
Great suggestion about the 2 Naxos apps. I love libraries and use their public computers to manipulate playlists. My mobile phone is my "jukebox". Music takes up a lot of my SD card storage space. Naxos is one of the best music services around. You can't download, but making the custom playlists are just as good.
Really great article. Thanks for the sharing. All apps are good and normally I use Google play music app. But when I want to listen to Gujarati movie songs, folk songs, Classsical songs then I use Jalso App.
Hi
I would just like to suggest my own app for a addition in the list or a new list as I think my app is better then all the other apps in that category. You can download the app from theytd2.com and should judge for yourself. Hope you like it.
🙂
Google Play is best...
Is there any app that can show auto subtitles?
Hey man great list I love it. What i think you can miss a one app. this is a totally ad free and largest and updated songs data base. The title of this "article" is...misleading.

Missing FrostWire from the mix - Plus from frostwire.com is both YouTube downloader and BitTorrent Client with search built in - you can download not only music, but videos and apps too :) And it has a built in player!
I read about similar apps on another android site.
Using an mp3 download site on the web like mp3dld.com has always been a much better option than using another app that has more features than one would ever need. If you just need music, its all you need.
I think that snap tube should have been mentioned for sure.
We don't really want to recommend apps from outside of the Play Store :/
Like

Best android apps
This app is amazing you can listen to music and turn off the phone without it stopping
From what i have been reading alot of people are saying these apps are the best thing since sliced bread but all i keep installing is CRAP! I've noticed some I've had in the past that worked great have now followed suit. What happened? Nothing works! Im using an LG android and the only thing that does what it claims is spotify and pandora but we all know u cant listen to it offline and u cant customize a playlist without paying for premium. I tried 4shared and its not available in my country. As if i live in Antarctica. I live in murica! If anyone knows of an app that's not full of it please let me know. Im looking for one that u can save to your phone. One that u can listen to even if your phone service has been disconnected! I dont know about everyone else but im really tired of wasting my time and risking the well-being of my phone by installing shady apps bcuz none of the safe apps do what theyre suppose to.
You're probably gonna have to root your phone or get Getflix here on abroad pit. You can get a lifetime subscription for like 40$, and you'll be able to stream from just about any music or movie/video app for free and 4ever. Now I now it's a one time fee but you'll also be able to install it on 8 devices/computers, so technically if you know a few people that use, say netflix then you can somehow make you're money back or just bless them with the ultimate capability. Anyway there's also smart dns proxy but you now know the gist of it. A close friend of mine gets a kick out of making others think he hacked the site they're streaming from. Have fun.
Thanks for sharing this article. Mobility has become a global phenomenon. Will share this link in my social networks.
ADM has been my choice from quite a while. I use that to download music and Solo Music Player to play it. Beautiful player I must say!
RockMyRun looks interesting. I'm downloading it right now!
ADM is best app for any downloads !! :)
You can download free legal music through android app DeMuss music downloader
I hate torrents and such, you get trojans, incomplete files and more. I recently got a tip from a friend: Usenext is a service that legally offers tons of downloads in high speed (music, games, movies..) for a montly fee. BUT you can check the 14-day trial, load 300GB stuff for free and KEEP that no matter what. So say you download 10 days straight and then quit easy via your account on usenext and thats it.
Videoder is actually pretty good if you want to download music, video
works both way and pretty efficient for me
wich videoder cause i get many like VIDEO MANAGER TOOL and else
So disappointed Rockmyrun is only a free trial membership then it's $4.99/mo
Some time ago I looked through Google Play Music but free pieces were unattractive. I prefer paid "Muzyka Tu i Tam".
thank for adding arab app for us. i love u android pit from algeria
I use MyAudioStream to download music from various servers and listen after, even being online.
musicall is a very good app just like spotify, totally free, but it isnt in google play its on chrome
4Shared Music isn't available in the USA?
I personally use music.free which used to be called Last FM.Free music downloader
I have used the 4shared Music and all I can say is that it is excellent! You couldn't ask for more, all user will love as it is user friendly.
Hands down...Pep mp3 download is by far the best! Lets you choose as far as kbps the song quality. Have used for over 4 1/2 years now and haven't found any that compare.
ADM is one of the best downloader.Using it since two months
If you like music, u can try cloudmusic A. K. A 网易云音乐 it's an killer!
i just have Google Play on my android. i think i must try other apps after this :)
I LOVE TRACKRACK! FREE,FAST,NO ADS AND MANY SONGS THERE THAT I HAVEN'T FOUND ON OTHER SITES.FILES ARE EASILY TRANSFERRED TO ANDROID DEVICES
Osons android app is also great tool for downloading music...
4Shared Music is an great music app which allows you to download and stream any music on your Android device for free
I get the songs through my friends on Shary nowadays. No more hassle to download and fear of piracy files. This Android app lets me to listen to the playlist of my friends and people nearby. You can request to stream any songs you'd like to check out.
what's new? or did you just microwave the already controversial article?
thanks for the nice information
The easiest way is to download from getsa.ga. Ad-free, no pop ups, and the widest library.
Do let me know how your experience was!
They seems like Any MP3 Downloader for downloading free songs from across the internet.
BTW, there are a lot of alternatives for MP3 downloader in AlternativeTo. Haha. Just don't want to be blamed for free downloading.
ADM's pretty good
Somusic app allows to play and download mp3 totally for free...
Just download music from SoundCLoud ;)
I wanted to include the Soundcloud but download doesn't work in the app version :( :(
So, I think hypemachine is a viable option. It cost about $4 for the app, but you can have 25 songs (I think) for offline use. And as far as I know, it's legal. No subscription fee either.
Thanks Jordon good to know!
I'm surprised you didn't just put utorrent. Biggest piracy app there is!
Hi Guys, I found a Crazy Awesome app to Experience Music, It's " FlipBeats"
FlipBeats Rock's I love this SUPER AWESOME APP, NO ADDS, the sound is neat Great App
What!!! Free mp3 downloading apps? On top of that 5 options, hmmm.. its tempting but the truth is none of the the above suggested apps are found in play store.... Ho ho ho..... Merry Christmas folks or jokes (dare I say)
I listen to BeatGuide all the time, which has streams from all the major clubs in any city you choose and Spotify and YouTube are brilliant too. I always stream because I'm always on WiFi. I just have a few regular albums saved on my phone for non-WiFi areas. Or I take my iPod if I need more.
I personally like Soundloader for Soundcloud http://www.androidpit.com/en/android/market/apps/app/com.gruebeltech.soundloader2/soundloader-for-soundcloud which allows you to download music from soundcloud for offline listening. As many artists upload their work to Soundcloud for free themselves, it's piracy guilt free downloads!
The artists make such a small margin on downloads, but they gain so much from the free sharing of their music and subsequent ticket sales. I don't necessarily think it's a bad idea for the artist or audience. Download the TED app http://www.androidpit.com/en/android/market/apps/app/com.ted.android/TED and check out the awesome video 'The art of asking' about music piracy pros and cons :)
That's just you trying to make some excuses. Unless the author himself allowed free download, it's piracy. Period!
that's true story. I wont try to accuse you but one of my theories is that black app stores can cancel revenue from your app store but since you dont give out music it wont matter you. (IMPORTANT NOTE: JUST A THEORY, I wont accuse anyone)
@bojan seems we understand each other quite well since we know that we both like anime.
Yeah :)
And just coz of my music widget, where you saw the angel beats soundtrack listed...
+1 Philipp
I personally thinks that it's unethical to promote pirating music. Artists and musicians work as hard as app developers too. Just because they're in the different field doesn't mean we can ignore their rights.
many times probably even harder.
wait a sec, this reveals controversy.
you can download music for free, for which you usually have to pay, which is piracy.
one of you (Loie) said at the topic of alternate markets, about the topic why Blackmart wasnt in the list:
"AndroidPIT doesn't support pirating apps, and only getting paid apps for free when the deal is officially closed with the developers themselves."
so pirating apps is bad, but Music is okay, hm...
but seriously, I dont want to attack anyone, it just caught my eyes and is irritating me...
Read the disclaimer.
might be true but still they dont list such methods for apps and similar things, and they are straight against it, which looks stupid when looking at this article even with the disclaimer.
