No updates for eight months...has LG given up?
About a year ago, LG launched its "Global Software Upgrade Center" and emphasized the importance of software update support. Twelve months later there is nothing left of this announcement but hot air, because there were no updates.
LG's flagship smartphones from last year and this spring, the LG G7 ThinQ and LG V40 ThingQ, are still running Android 8 Oreo. The last big Android update from LG was the G7, which got the Oreo update in April 2018 - so again a year ago. Not a single LG smartphone has received the update to Android 9 Pie so far, with one exception: the LG G7 One, which thanks to Android One can be supplied directly by Google with the updates.
The new models that LG presented at the MWC 2019, the LG G8 ThinQ, G8s ThinQ and V50 ThinQ, will be launched with the current Android version. This, however, is no more than a small consolation for the customers to whom LG had promised to do everything better in the future.
Remarkable: The LG V40 ThinQ appeared a good two months after Android 9 Pie still with Android 8 Oreo and has still not received an Android update. Android 9 Pie has been on the market for over half a year now. For a device in this price class this is a poor show indeed.
The importance of Android updates has meanwhile spread among smartphone customers, and rightly so. Only those who keep their software up-to-date enjoy the best protection against all the dangers that await unprotected smartphones and other devices on the net. Despite the "Global Software Upgrade Center", word does not seem to have got around up to LG yet.

I have owned several LG phones, Monitors, TVs and DVD Devices. I purchased the LG G8 Thinq Unlocked and the screen cracked a few weeks after I bought it. I contacted LG and was quoted $250.00 as an estimate to repair the screen. I reached out to Corning the maker of the Gorilla Glass 5 covering the OLED screen and was pointed back to the manufacturer. This as well as the total lack of updates for both my phone and my TV has assured that I will never buy any more of their merchandise. I refuse to spend money supporting a company that does not stand behind their products. I hope this helps someone else make a decision to look elsewhere before losing their money with LG.
I had the LG G3 years ago and I thought it was a decent phone. I was frustrated with the lack of update for months on end while virtually everyone else (including samsung) got theirs. . .I ended up going samsung for quite a long time but finally decided to give LG another shot with the G7. Not a bad phone if I'm being honest. But LG made a HUGE deal about PROMISING updates more regularly and an upgrade to Android 9.0 in a timely manner...yet we're almost to June of 2019 and nothing. I hate to say it but this will most likely be my last LG device.
I had several LG phones in the family, but I will never buy a LG phone again. The phones don't last and their customer support is virtually non-existent.
My LG g7 thinq keeps screen freeze and bootloop a number of times a day for which i have to soft reset again and again. No software update from LG has made me laughing stock in my circles.
Agonizing attitude regarding consumer sentiments on updates by LG
Oh. Wow. This is disappointing. I was actually looking at the LG V40 for my next phone but It's pretty clear LG has little interest in supporting their smartphone division. Why even bother? It's a fact LG is hemorrhaging money. LG in 2019 is an also-ran with the commitment level of BLU.
If your worried about updates.
Get a Pixel phone. Love my LG V20 V30 V35 V40. Don't care if I ever get update!
Which feature you love in LG as very poor camera performance in all LG top lines phones
yes you people are not updating anything from last few months...
"Global Software Upgrade Center"
And yet no updates. It was a marketing stunt and many kind hearted digital citizens fell for it.
SMH, Seems obvious to me the way to go for LG mobile would be to make all their phones Google One. 1) It would relieve them of having to deal with the software end, which they seem to be uninterested-unable to do, and 2) How many more phones would they sell if they had stock Android on them that would both perform better and get great update support from Google?
I wonder if they did something like this, could they work a deal with Google to make their previous non Google One phones retroactively Google One, tear out old LG UX overlay and flash with Stock Google One? To me, an LG V35 with Google Pixel-like software support would be a very compelling phone. Hell, an LG G6 would be too!
LG's smartphone division is becoming an epic fail! Their flagships are overpriced and underwhelming - time to take the hint from Motorola and deliver a great budget device again (they've established this with their Stylos, the Stylo 4+ was decent, time to get a Stylo 5 on store shelves with specs that rival the Motorola G7+!)
